Latest and New Credit Card Laws, Rules and Disclosure Act February 2010

Latest and New Credit Card Laws, Rules and Disclosure Act February 2010. The bill Congress passed in May reforms the Truth in Lending Act, which governs only consumer credit. The measure fulfills a wish list of long-sought reforms. Issuers won’t be able to hike the interest rates on existing balances as long as customers pay their bills on time, and they’ll need to notify customers at least 45 days in advance of interest rate increases and most fee changes.

Those two changes alone will save consumers an estimated $10 billion annually, nonprofit research firm Pew estimated in a recent report. The new law also restricts interest rate increases for the first year after you open an account.

And, to help you avoid late fees, card issuers now have to send statements 21 days before payment is due, a week more than the previous requirement.

Thank God that the Car manufacturer Toyota has finally thought it prudent to recall its around 2.3 million faulty cars, due to faulty gas pedals. There were complaints that at times Toyota cars speed on their own.

For drivers it must be the worst nightmare. Complaints poured into the car manufacturers officers for years, but the good news comes only now, around four years after the first such incident was reported in 2006.

This happened with a user who while test driving Toyota RAV4 discovered to his horror that the car was picking up speed very fast without him trying to do.

Toyota issued a statement about their current (January) recall, as the company tries to stay ahead of a potential danger on the road to its customers. They didn’t go as far as saying that the vehicles should not be driven, but rather that they have been recalled in order to fix the potential problem.

The election has generated interest across the nation as everyone wants to know what is going to happen in Massachusetts that was till now represented by a Democrat heavyweight.

Schultz asked Sekoff why Independent voters seem to be supporting Brown. Sekoff said that he thinks it’s because President Obama hasn’t stood strongly enough against Wall Street, and that populist anger has turned on Democrats, who are now viewed by some as the status quo.
